Paperchase in Target & Christmas Wrapping!

One of the many things I miss about living in London is a precious stationary chain called Paperchase. They're often found in shopping centres or train stations (for last minute cards or wrapping!) and they have the most precious Christmas wrapping tools. So imagine my glee when I came across a little section of Paperchase goodies at Target about a month ago! Why this collaboration? I don't know, nor do I care because it means I can now have a little bit of Paperchase with me in the US.
Wrapping gifts, and giving them, is one of my favourite parts of Christmas. I love making them look nice so that as they sit under the tree, they are just a part of the decorations. When my family came down to visit me around Thanksgiving, I gave the three of them (parents and older brother) a Disney ornament. They were wrapped and waiting in the hotel room when they arrived and I thought they looks rather nice and festive. I've since wrapped loads more gifts that are sitting under the Christmas tree up in Washington, awaiting Christmas morning.
Hope you all have a lovely Christmas, get to spend it with your family, eat good food and get that special gift you've been dying for :) x

Sweater Weather Tag

So this tag has been going around YouTube lately and so I thought I'd turn it into a blog post because, well, I said I'd use this blog and then failed so what else is new? ;)

1. Favorite candle scent?
Leaves and Cider Spice from Bath & Body Works are two of my favourites this time of year.
2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?
Honestly, I absolutely love all of them. Of them all, I'm always down for some hot chocolate. I particularly love Starbucks hot chocolate with pumpkin spice instead of vanilla syrup. Or, my current favourite, gingerbread hot chocolate. Mmm.
3. What's the best fall memory you have?
I'd have to say trick or treating on Halloween with my dad. My brother would stay at home with my mom and help pass out candy and I would go out with my dad. I didn't even like candy that much, but it was a night I could always count of spending time with my dad. Also, school supplies shopping with my mom before the first day!
4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner?
I love both. I never wear too dark of lipsticks and I'm not great at winged eyeliner, but I'll probably say the latter.
5. Best fragrance for fall?
I own very few perfumes and use them very rarely, so I don't have an answer for this.
6. Favorite Thanksgiving food?
(Vegetarian) stuffing and green bean casserole. Mmmm. I'm actually so thrilled that this year, I am not totally missing Thanksgiving and my family is coming the weekend before and we're going to cook a little Thanksgiving in my apartment.
7. What is autumn weather like where you live?
Right now I live in Southern California, where it has been about 85ºF. So that's strange. I'm much more used to Seattle or London weather where it's just sort of drizzly, chilly and in the case of Seattle, very green. We get the pretty coloured leaves there too, but it IS the Evergreen State.
(top is from my window, bottom is Seattle in autumn 2010.)
8. Most worn sweater?
My two favourites this year have been this mauve coloured zippered cardigan from Urban Outfitters and this burnt orange one from Forever 21.
9. Must-have nail polish this fall?
Working at Disney means that I don't really get to wear nail polish because it interferes with the show, so I'll just say the Dior Nail Glow. It's an overly expensive nail product that I fell in love with because it makes the nails look classy, while still looking natural. When I can wear nail polish, I'm all about You Don't Know Jacques by OPI.
10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?
Absolutely leaf piles. I steer clear of football (don't tell my family - just kidding they already know and don't understand me).
11. Skinny jeans or leggings?
Hmmm, I really appreciate both. I was never into leggings until recently, but I'm really learning to love them. In the past, always skinny jeans.
12. Combat boots or Uggs?
I'm all about the combat boots.
13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?
Yes. I'll take pumpkin spice everything please.
14. Favorite fall TV show?
This year, the only show I'm really watching is Castle.
15. What song really gets you into the fall spirit?
Autumn Sweater by Yo Lo Tengo is an autumn classic, but I mostly listen to Christmas music from September to December, soooo.

Long Time, No Blog

Long time, no blog. The same thing can be said about my YouTube channel, as well. See, I have been rather busy in the past two months what with moving to California and starting a new job and making loads of amazing friends...anyway, life has been good. YouTube has always been a hobby for me. A hobby that provides me with loads of incredible opportunities and has taken me all over the country and world and I am so grateful. But despite everything wonderful about it, it has always been a hobby and lately I haven't had time for hobbies. Additionally, a lot of things about YouTube have changed from the YouTube I joined when I was 14 years old. While change is something that I am not afraid of, I find that most of the changes I've seen have either been for the worse or just not to the style of YouTube that I want to be a part of at this point in my life.

As a result, I've just struggled with what I want to do about this change. When I've had time (which is almost never), I have actually recorded and edited videos but I just don't feel like they belong in this new YouTube world. I feel outdated and I'm not even that upset about it because I know that it was never going to be something I did forever. But even in this strange time, I really want to be sharing my life and my experiences and, in particular with this blog/channel, my passion for clothing and makeup. So I think until I start to feel natural on camera or on YouTube again, I'm going to be using this blog as an outlet.

For those of you only interested in beauty and fashion related things, I hope you can appreciate that this blog is called Kayley's Closet and no closet is complete without boxes of old photographs and souvenirs of experiences and memories, am I right? Anyway, I have to head off to work* now, but if you've missed me, know that I have missed this too and that I hopefully will be posting more on this blog until I get my video blogging life figured out. There are products that need photographing and outfits that need putting together and hopefully I'll have that update for you real soon. Until then, have a wonderful afternoon and--oh, I should probably share a little outfit post for you, shouldn't I?
Gotcha! ;)

* For those of you who don't know, I am currently participating in the Disney College Program at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA. I work in Tomorrowland Attractions, specifically I am a part of the Autopia Pit Crew. It's pretty wonderful to work in a place that is built around the idea of creating happiness and memories and I love being a very small part of that.

My Glam Bag | July 2013

This is incredibly belated because these photos were taken over a month ago now, but I have them, so why not post them? This is my latest Glam Bag, though I expect another will be arriving any day now as it's already mid-August, but shhhh.
Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray Conditioning & Texturizing Spray
As much as I would love for these beach sprays to work, I find that they only ever make my hair feels like it needs another washing. However, my friend who has similar hair to mine loved it. So I don't know what's wrong with me.
derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub
The word 'microdermabrasion' gives me chills enough without adding 'scrub' to it. Just sticking my fingertip in this made my face hurt. There is no way this is going on my face; my skin is far too sensitive and I don't really think microdermabrasion it meant to be done at home.
COOLA Mineral Face SPF 20 Unscented Moisturizer
I did use this a couple of times in LA because my fair skin will take all of the SPF it can get. I don't feel strongly about it, but it did the job without any sort of irritation!
Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez Polish in 'Pretty in Plum'
This was a bonus gift for referring people to Ipsy, but it's a really lovely colour! I don't have anything like it, but I like the formulation of Nicole by OPI, so I'm excited to use it. However, my new job means I won't be painting my nails for a very long time, so it'll have to wait!
POP Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon in 'Coral Crush'
This product is so creamy and pigmented! My main worry is that it would melt, both in the packaging and on the lips. I haven't worn it out, yet, but the colour is really nice!
BH Cosmetics California Collection Eyeshadow Sample
This purple colour is a new favourite. It's just such a pretty, unique colour from anything else that I have. The other two colours are also nice, just a little else memorable in my own collection. This is a nice palette, though, for just throwing in your bag to ensure you have some colour if you're going away or something.

Review | Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray

While I don't have oily skin most of the time, my face gets rather sweaty (glamourous!) in the heat. So before I went off to LA this summer, I picked up this sample size of the Urban Decay setting spray I've heard so much about over the years. I think for this to work 100%, you're meant to put it on before and after your makeup and I almost never remember to actually do that. However, this does work pretty well! I definitely notice my makeup lasting longer, though not all night, when I apply it. I'm heading down to Anaheim starting tomorrow to work in Disneyland for the semester and I'll definitely want to pick up the full-sized bottle of this to use while I'm at work! x

Review | Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

Alright, after years of hearing about how great this product is, I went for it. Ten bucks isn't that much, but for some reason I never wanted to pick it up. Mostly just because I don't think I look that great with bottom lash mascara and it never lasts long there anyway. While I have, thus far, only used this one a few times, I am beginning to suspect that I was right. Lasting power is there, but it still doesn't look right on me! It will be good to have this product for more intricate or smokier looks, but I am definitely not a day-to-day bottom lash girl, you know? Have you tried it before? x

Yellow Eyeliner?

I decided that I really wanted a yellow eyeliner for whatever reason, so I found this baby. I haven't broken it in, yet, but I'm pretty excited about the prospects. I've loved the idea of it for years, ever since I saw it in a Nylon spread a few years back. I can't find the specific one, but I also remember this one pretty clearly. Doesn't it look so awesome? I'll try and take a picture of it when I get around to using it, but until then, you can bask in the adorableness of my swatch message smiley face. What are your feelings on non-conventional eyeliner colours? :) x

Review | Josie Moran Cheek Gelée

My friend Mallory has been talking about this product loads over the past couple of months, so I had to give it a whirl. Basically, it is a jelly-like blush that lasts all day, brightens the face (which I tried to capture in the selfie, but it isn't super evident) and it's kind of an amazing texture. The colour is so much fun and even though it looks sort of intimidating, it's super fun! Gives a really bright wash to the cheeks. I'd say it's a pretty awesome pick for the summer, as it's powder free, has pretty great ingredients (argan oil and coconut water!) and it really pretty. If you've been on the fence, consider this a well-intentioned shove.

Blue (Not) Suede Shoes!

Just a short post because I took pictures of my new shoes and I'm totally digging them. They're so cute, the colour scheme is awesome and despite their height, they're really comfortable! They're actually on sale at DSW and are definitely worth the $30 price tag. I think there are multiple colours on the site, too! Man, I love cool shoes. What are your current favourite shoes? x
